PARAMUS, NJ—MGP Manufacturing LLC, producers of MasterShield Gutter Protection, announced the issuance of a patent by the US Patent Office to MasterShield that names as the inventor Edward “Alex” Higginbotham today.  This patent further adds to his growing number of industry-leading fine mesh gutter guards.

Fine Mesh Gutter Guards

Patent 8312677 for Fine Mesh Gutter GuardsThis latest patent, U.S. Patent No. 8,312,677, issued on November 20, 2012.  It is directed to a gutter guard with a fine filter mesh, and includes a liquefied adhesive (i.e., bead of caulk) bonded to the filter membrane that facilitates water flow into the gutter below.

“The Higginbotham technology, owned by MGP, comprised of fine mesh gutter guards keeps debris like leaves and pine needles out of a gutter by completely separating it from rainwater.  It can even keep out debris smaller than shingle grit, which ensures clear flowing gutters,” said Karen M. Sager, President of MGP.   “This latest patent grows the number of our patents to nine, and confirms MGP’s technology leadership in filtration gutter guards,” she said.

MGP technology can be found in over 12 million feet of gutter guards installed nationwide and in Canada.  This represents the third patent issued to Higginbotham since last November.  MGP owns the Higginbotham portfolio.  Mr. Higginbotham is the Chief Innovation Officer of the Company.

“Today’s marketplace is growing increasingly competitive with the rapid introduction of other new fine mesh gutter guards.  The most successful businesses will be the ones who leverage their intellectual property to give homeowners the performance they’re looking for when considering innovative gutter guard technology,” said Ms. Sager. “MGP has various patents covering its technology, and we believe we are the industry’s technology leader in gutter guards,” she said.

About MGP Manufacturing

Pine Needles 100x MagnificationMGP is the manufacturer of MasterShield Gutter Protection, the next generation of gutter protection from Edward “Alex” Higginbotham, the inventor of microfiltration gutter guards.  The Higginbotham Technology revolutionized the industry by being the first gutter guard to combine a microfilter with a strong but flexible recycled aluminum body, allowing the product to be installed with the pitch of the roof.  MasterShield finely filters water to about half the width of a human hair, so that nothing but water will enter your gutter. Keeping the gutter clear and free-flowing helps prevent water damage and eliminates breeding grounds for disease-carrying insects.  MGP is a woman-owned business.
